Intro to Physical Therapy

I just received our letter in the mail.

Approved for physical therapy. Appointment scheduled for March 6 for our initial evaluation.

Now to look up our surgery dates to put them on our information form.

Something I thought was kind of funny. The form asks: What is the best way for a therapist to give you information and instructions: __writing them down __showing them to you __telling you. I had to check all of the above. I need it written so I remember it was said, I need it said so I remember to refer to written instructions and I need to see it in order to fully grasp. ย Multi-sensory learner? Yes, I think so. LOL

So, here we go. Starting down another path on which we’ve never before ventured. I’ll keep you posted.

  1. I come at this as both a parent and a therapist (OT) but starting PT with Gage was still so very hard for me. It was like it was the first long-term thing that he would “be subjected to” as a person with a disability. Before then, he was just my baby…It’s weird to me now that I felt that way since I had been on the other side of things for longer than I had been a mom. I wish I could give my then-worried self a big hug now. PT has been such a blessing for us, in more ways than one. Gage’s PT is fabulous and has become a good friend. He loves her and used to cry why I picked him up from PT. She’s also been invaluable to our family with Gage’s help. She was the first to notice something was off with Gage, which lead to his first cyst surgery. Same for the 2nd, which prompted us (at her encouragement) to seek a different neurosurgeon. I guess I need to write a blog about this myself instead of posting it all in a comment!! Anyway, all of that to say that I know PT will be a good thing for your family, and to give you a virtual hug if you need it ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Aww thanks ๐Ÿ™‚ And yeah, I get what you’re saying..this is it…this starts the journey that comes from being different, from having this condition. At this point I’m ok with it. We’ll see how that first visit goes though, huh? ๐Ÿ˜‰

      1. I’m sure it will go fine. I stayed with Gage for the evaluation, but never stayed with him after that. I thought it was important for the PT to establish herself as the authority in her space. Obviously that’d be different if she came to our house, but we go to the clinic. It also gives me a break to go to the grocery store :).
